One Planet One Future

One Planet. One Future.™ is a simple reminder to our customers and ourselves, that in our increasingly small world the little things we do today can have a big impact on our children of tomorrow.

While I recognize Munchkin is not currently as green as any of us would like it to be, I also know that small improvements are better than none at all, and that over time those improvements can add up to a big difference.

One Planet. One Future.™ serves as my inspiration to make meaningful changes to my company’s business practices that positively impact the world for our children’s future.

Get Inspired

What we’ve done:

  • Developed a new line of toys that are inspired by nature (animals, insects, plants, trees, etc.), not only as a great recognition learning tool for children but also to build their respect and love for nature and the world around them.

What you can do:

  • Take your kids on nature walks and hikes – the more they learn about nature and experience it, the more they will appreciate and learn to protect it.
  • Don’t have time to go for a hike? Get a pot and soil, plant some seeds, water them and watch them grow with your kids. Herb gardens are easy to take care of and have the added benefit of livening up any meal!

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

What we’ve done:

  • Expanded our corporate recycling program – glass, plastic and paper.
  • Continually reduced the amount of packaging on our products.
  • Reduced amount of shrink wrap used in shipping by 10% with "pre-stretched" wrap.
  • Encouraged employees to reduce and reuse by supplying them with reusable water bottles.

What you can do:

Think Green

What we’ve done:

  • Munchkin is expanding to a new building and making it GREEN… bamboo flooring, energy saving lights, recycled building materials.
  • We have moved many of our paper processes to electronic and online solutions in order to reduce paper consumption.

What you can do:

  • Switch to energy saving lights – not only will you save energy, but you’ll also save money!
  • Unplug appliances when they are not in use. You’d be surprised at how much electricity appliances use in "stand-by" mode.
  • Switch from paper statements (banks, credit cards, etc.) to electronic statements.

What we’ve done:

  • Munchkin is phthalate-free! We are no longer producing or shipping any product that contains phthalates.
  • We’re even changing the product insides that you never see or touch. For example, we have voluntarily removed the lead soldering from electronic components inside of our Mozart Magic Cube toy.
  • We have pledged to be BPA (Bisphenol-A) free on bottles, pacifiers and teethers by the end of 2008. So that you remain both informed and comfortable, you can find a list of all materials in our feeding and pacifier products on our website at http://www.munchkin.com/media/pdf/bpa_products.pdf.

What you can do:

  • Stay informed: Plastic products that use polycarbonate plastic (the potential sources of Bisphenol-A) can be identified by a number inside the recycle symbol, typically on the bottom of the product. Numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5 do not contain polycarbonate plastic (and therefore are definitely BPA-free).
  • Tree Planting, Volunteer Days and a new corporate carpooling program. Stay tuned!
